Saltworks Launches Xtract: Modular Ion Exchange & Adsorption Platform for Advanced Applications

Saltworks Technologies (“Saltworks”) is pleased to announce the release of Xtract, a modular ion exchange and adsorption system engineered for selective ion removal and recovery from industrial waters.

Xtract is a flexible, open-platform technology that allows for the selection of optimal internal media and process controls tailored to specific applications.

Xtract delivers high-efficiency treatment and recovery through customizable configurations, automated regeneration, and pilot-validated performance. Various vessel sizes are available, and all systems are built and commissioned off-site to reduce installation and start-up time for clients.

Unlike conventional ion exchange systems used for low-salinity softening, Xtract is engineered for underserved and emerging applications that often require breakthrough curve testing for accurate costing and sizing. Target applications include:

  • Chelating ion exchange in high-TDS waters
  • Hardness and boron removal in chlor-alkali and lithium refining processes
  • PFAS removal with regenerable or disposable resins and ZLD-compliant regeneration strategies
  • Metal recovery when economically justified
  • Tetramethylammonium (TMA) treatment and recovery in semiconductor and chemical wastewater
  • Scale-forming ion removal upstream of membrane systems to enable high-pH RO and silica solubilization

Xtract is delivered as a fully integrated, pre-commissioned modular package with advanced controls and remote monitoring for minimal operator intervention. It pairs with Saltworks’ SelectNF, XtremeRO, and FusionRO systems to deliver complete treatment solutions.

Saltworks now offers qualified applicants a rapid chemistry review and in-house testing to inform full-scale Xtract system design. This includes breakthrough curve data and resin selection, sizing and lifecycle cost estimates, regeneration strategy, and waste stream analysis.
