Precipitation & Coagulation
In wastewaters burdened with heavy metals, physical-chemical precipitation converts soluble heavy metals to insoluble salts. The resulting precipitate must be removed by some combination of physical steps such as coagulation, clarification, and/or filtration. There are considerable opportunities in optimizing conventional precipitation & coagulation (P&C) processes.
Meet Treatment GoalsAt times, only precipitation & coagulation (P&C) is required to meet a treatment goal, avoiding the need for more expensive desalination technology and/or a brine to manage. Beneficially, a P&C process produces only two outputs: treated water with metals removed, and a solid filter cake containing the removed metals. Heavy Metals Related Resources
As regulations on FGD wastewater tighten, additional treatment is required. Often, this is chemically intense, and high cost. The best means to lower treatment costs is to reduce the volume of wastewater generated, usually by increasing internal recycle.
Coal ash pond water may require treatment because leached pollutants from ash pond water pose human health and ecological risks. Consider membrane concentrators, minimal liquid discharge (MLD), and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technologies to reduce brine volumes from treating leachable pollutants.
