Xtract

Selective Ion Exchange & Adsorption System

Modular, intelligent system for targeted ion removal and recovery in complex industrial waters.

Xtract is a modular, open-platform technology designed for advanced ion exchange and adsorption. It selectively removes or recovers targeted ions and chemicals from water.

Xtract features a flexible design that allows for the selection of optimal internal media and process controls tailored to your specific application. With customizable configurations, automated regeneration, and pilot-validated performance, Xtract delivers high-efficiency treatment and recovery solutions.

Saltworks offers Xtract in a range of vessel sizes and process flow configurations, with systems built and commissioned off-site to reduce installation and start-up time.

Built for Important Industrial Applications

Unlike conventional ion exchange systems for low-salinity water softening, Xtract is engineered for underserved and emerging applications that often require breakthrough curve testing for accurate sizing and costing. Target applications include high-TDS chelating ion exchange, hardness or boron removal, PFAS removal, metals and value recovery, and lithium refining.

Metals can be recovered from wastewater when economically justified. In some cases, a hybrid process may be used to support optimal recovery performance.

Remove hardness or boron from high-salinity solutions, often associated with chlor-alkali production of caustic, or lithium refining processes that produce lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide.

Utilizes regenerable or single-use anion exchange resins for cost-effective PFAS removal. Regeneration fluids can be treated or contained to support zero liquid discharge (ZLD) compliance. Read more about Saltworks’ PFAS solutions.

Treats semiconductor and chemical wastewaters containing tetramethylammonium (TMA), with the option to recover it as tetramethylammonium chloride (TMAC) for reuse.

Removes scale-forming ions such as calcium and magnesium from high-pH waters upstream of membrane systems, enabling high-pH reverse osmosis to solubilize silica. Read more about Saltworks’ CTB solutions.

Recovering industrial water may require creative consideration to maximize water recovery at the lowest cost while meeting regulatory discharge requirements. Novel hybrids of ion exchange and nanofiltration systems, with each operating in its process sweet spot, are of growing interest. Read more about Saltworks’ SelectNF.
