Saltworks Awarded BC's ICE Fund grant

February 6th, 2012

Saltworks Technologies is set to receive close to $1 million from the Province of British Columbia’s Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund.

The ICE Fund, administered by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, supports clean energy technologies in B.C. and other jurisdictions that have international market potential.

ICE Fund support will help Saltworks advance the development of its low-energy, waste-heat-powered technology for desalinating seawater and treating waste saltwater, with pure water and salt as the end products.

“Support from the ICE Fund demonstrates the Province of B.C.’s commitment to building a green economy, as well as the potential for Saltworks’ water technologies to deliver benefits to B.C. and globally,” said Joshua Zoshi, Saltworks’ president.

Saltworks continues to commercialize its innovative desalination and water treatment technology platforms, including applications in BC’s mining industry.

How to Manage Brine Disposal & Treatment

The many options for managing brine, a term for saline wastewater from industrial processes, fall under two categories: brine treatment and brine disposal. Brine treatment involves desalinating the brine for reuse and producing a concentrated brine (lower liquid waste volume), or residual solids (zero liquid discharge).
