Treating PFAS—Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances

Complete PFAS extraction and concentration solutions

Saltworks’ PFAS treatment systems are optimized to suit your specific water chemistry, discharge limits, and preferred PFAS disposal or destruction pathway. We are destruction-technology agnostic, offering independent expert insights.

Perfluoroalkyls & Polyfluoroalkyls

Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a group of synthetic carbon-fluorine compounds used in a wide range of industrial and consumer products. Known as “forever chemicals,” PFAS do not naturally degrade and are highly persistent in the environment, posing serious risks to human health and ecosystems.

Due to their widespread use, PFAS are commonly detected in wastewaters, including industrial effluent, landfill leachate, and aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) stockpiles.

To comply with tightening regulations, PFAS extraction and concentration from these waters is becoming increasingly common across industries.

Cost-Effective PFAS Treatment

PFAS treatment systems must be carefully engineered to match wastewater chemistry, co-contaminants, and the strengths and limitations of available technologies. Saltworks delivers modular, intelligently automated PFAS treatment solutions tailored to your project’s specific needs and designed for the lowest total cost of ownership.

Our systems incorporate proven, EPA-recognized technologies, selected based on your water chemistry, application, and waste handling preferences:

  • Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) – XtractPAC

  • Regenerable and single-use Ion Exchange (IX) – XtractPIXr/d

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) – XtremeRO

  • Nanofiltration (NF) – SelectNF

We are PFAS destruction-technology agnostic, enabling seamless integration with your preferred destruction solution—now or in the future.

Ultra High Pressure Reverse Osmosis for Landfill Leachate

Reverse osmosis (RO) is the best available technology to treat landfill leachate for surface discharge. Possible trace volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ammonia emerging in the RO permeate can be removed with a polishing step to meet the highest discharge standards.

Anaerobic Digester Wastewater Management During Biogas Production

Digester wastewaters are by-products of biogas production in anaerobic digesters. They require treatment prior to disposal. To meet regulation compliance, treatment options range from minor interventions such as selective contaminant removal, to major interventions such as minimum and zero liquid discharge (MLD/ZLD).
